"It's time to return to childhood, return to innocence, return to purity, to non-judgemental joy. Adulthood is the imposter, the deceiver, the one that leads us away from our true nature. "
~Tree George~

The "gap" between what was and what is may very well be my inability to concieve that a "pure nature" exists. This implies that, regardless of any life circumstance, there is an un-jaded, un-altered, childlike joy inside each person.

I can grasp that I was once a young child who, much like my nephew, was unaware of the troubles of life. At some point there was constant curiosity and possibly unwavering optimism. I cannot imagine that that child lasted for long. I have memories of being two. In those memories, there are consequences. I am learning consequences. The stove is hot. Don't play with the glass things on the shelf. Don't talk to the scary neighbors.

What was pure? When was pure?

Back to the "gap". If a child existed, her world included a sense of security. The security was defined by her "place" in the unit. Her place shifted suddenly.
She stopped existing when the sense of security stopped. The adult took over.

The adult saw and heard and did (and did not do) things. The adult must come to terms with those things. The adult must now adjust to the life without the security.

And the gap widens, unless......
Unless what?
It is suggested that the adult reach out to the child.
I cannot connect to this child. If the child existed, she did so in a world that no longer exists. I cannot go back again.

I went back to a resort once to relive a wonderful memory. It was not the same at all.
I went back to our old house to revisit the past. I could not even get near the past.
My grandmother's house is now my grandfather's house. It is not the same.
My parents house is now my mother's house. It is not the same.
Our childhood house was washed away - down the river - in a flood. Now only stands weeds in a place where we all would play. "Being" does not exist there. We do not exist there.
We cannot go back. We can only go forward.
The child, if there ever was such a thing, is gone.

I am often enticed by the idea that, one day, long after humans, all of the plants will overgrow all we see now. It will all go back to earth. There seems to be a "rightness" about that.

The End of June/The Beginning of July (Month 7 begins)

"There is much work to be done." she stated, wondering if she even knows where to begin. She suspects that she does not.
"One foot in front of the other, I suppose."

Thus begins the journey. It is mental. It is emotional. It is spiritual. It is real.
It requires a goal. The goal is not yet clear; not yet determined. She feels it will reveal itself in time.

What she is very clear about is the need for some sort of action. She wishes for that action to begin today. Possibly, this post is the beginning.
A voice deep within whispers, "Is this a mood? Will this pass?"
She counters it with a desire to stay the course. Just stay the course. Focus.

There is something deeper to explore.
It feels as if there has been a "skip" in time. A gap from what was to what is.
To bridge the gap. Maybe that is the goal?

Soak in every emotion. Move in every direction.
Be no longer, a body at rest.

She says, to no one, "There is something larger than myself. There is something greater happening now."

Wouldn't it be great if I had something profound to say? I don't. That's not a bad thing. Sometimes a blank mind is a blessing. Hey...wait...was that profound?

6-21-06 Withdrawal

"Withdrawal from nicotine, an addictive drug found in tobacco, is characterized by symptoms that include headache, anxiety, nausea and a craving for more tobacco.

Mental and Emotional Symptoms. Tension and craving build up during periods of withdrawal, sometimes to a nearly intolerable point. One European study found that the incidence of workplace accidents increases on No Smoking Day, a day in which up to 2 million smokers either reduce the amount they smoke or abstain altogether. "

That's pleasant, huh? The hubby is doing amazingly well....sorta. He has not had one cigarette in seven days now. After a 2+/day habit, that's impressive and I'm proud of him. BUT - he has become an intolerable a**hole.
He's just downright mean. I realize this is a symptom and so I let it slide. I do not want him to go back to smoking. I know this will pass. But would it be so wrong if I slip valium into his drinks for a month or so?

Sigh. I love you honey. I'm sorry you don't feel good. I'm really, really proud of you.

Feelings, whether of compassion or irritation, should be welcomed, recognized, and treated on an absolutely equal basis; because both are ourselves. The tangerine I am eating is me. The mustard greens I am planting are me. I plant with all my heart and mind. I clean this teapot with the kind of attention I would have were I giving the baby Buddha or Jesus a bath. Nothing should be treated more carefully than anything else. In mindfulness, compassion, irritation, mustard green plant, and teapot are all sacred.
-Thich Nhat Hanh, "Miracle of Mindfulness"

If you want to know the past, to know what has caused you, look at yourself in the present, for that is the past’s effect. If you want to know your future, then look at yourself in the present, for that is the cause of the future.-Majjhima Nikaya

Different winds come from all directions. Some are clear, some carry dust, some are cold or hot, fierce gales or gentle breezes. In the same way sensations arise in the body--pleasant or unpleasant or neutral. When a meditator sees sensations as he does the winds, coming and going, clear or dust laden, fierce or gentle, he will fully understand them and be free from dependence on them. When he understands sensations perfectly, he will see beyond this conditioned world.-Samyutta Nikaya

6-15-06 Inner Child Malarky

“It sounds corny, but I've promised my inner child that never again will I ever abandon myself for anything or anyone else again.” -Wynonna Judd

Inner child is a concept used in psychology to denote a condition that can be linked back to a childhood experience, physical or emotional.

Carl Jung called it the 'Divine Child', Emmet Fox called it the 'Wonder Child', Charles Whitfield called it the 'Child Within'. Some psychotherapists call it the 'True Self'. The "wounded inner child" label was coined by American educator and theologian, John Bradshaw.

The concept of my inner child was brought up yesterday. I'm having a lot of trouble with the idea. Someone thinks I should "nurture her". I, on the other hand, am inclined to think it's all a bunch of hooey. How does one nurture a metaphor?

“My quest these days is to find my long lost inner child, but I'm afraid if I do, I'll end up with food in my hair and way too in love with the cats.”-Kenny Loggins

6-14-06 Try and try again....

Today I will quit smoking...again.
I quit last year and that lasted about 4 months. The stress (and I think I'm justified in that one) got me back to it. It was also very difficult in that my husband continued to smoke. That half-smoked cigarette in the ashtray was just too easy to pick up.

So, he announced on Sunday that he would be quitting "in a couple of days". He purchased a box of nicotine patches last night and we both ran out of cigarettes today. I ran out about 10 minutes ago.

I do want to quit...but this came a bit sudden for me and I'm not sure I'm mentally prepared. Regardless, if he's quitting it's the best time for me to quit. We are going to be some cranky, snack-eating people for a while, I think. Maybe not. We'll see.

Gosh I hope I get it right this time.

Happy Wednesday.

6-13-06 That's not funny....or is it?

First things first: WOOHOO! GO HURRICANES! (The Hurricanes won last night. Great game too!) Now they get to shut down the Oilers on home ice. It's going to be one sweet victory.

And now: OxyMornical News

We have purchased a new printer. It's a pretty printer - mostly in that it is not an HP. (snicker) It's all shiny and new and has pretty blue lights on it.
I spent an hour wiring it up and plugging it in and setting it up. Then we print a test page and the funniest thing happens. A deep, sexy, manly voice comes across my pc speakers and says: "Printing Started". Now as nice as it is to have the deep, sexy, manly voice in my room, I think "Why does it tell you that?" And then it dawns on me. It is a printer for the blind.
Wait. Why are blind people printing things?
To be doubly polite...deep, sexy, manly voice returns to say: "Printing is complete."
So the blind can go get their printjob...right? ;P

In other news; I am networked. Both PCs are speaking to one another FINALLY.
My awesome, techie brother-in-law connected to my PC last night and found the problem that was keeping the pcs apart. He said to me "you realize you have THREE firewalls? McAfee (which was there first) and Windows Firewall (built in) and a Router Firewall."
Then he said the silliest thing ever. He said "No one could ever get into your computer."
He said this while he, sitting on his couch 250 miles from here, was changing settings the on my machine...without my help. Yes. He was moving MY mouse and looking at MY screen and telling me three firewalls were overkill. Uh-huh. Id'm not convinced.

Ok - if that didn't make you smile big, this will. (she surfs over to the pics on Machine #2)

Look at those sweet golden curls. I'm in love all over again.

6-12-06 Crossed Wires

And where the heck have I been, you ask? Well, I have been in a strange abyss. There is a deep, dark hole that I have found. It isn't my hole but I got shoved into it pretty hard.

See, I've had some internet connection issues. I called Verizon who was incredibly helpful but they blamed it on Linksys. I called Linksys who was incredibly helpful but told me to talk to Verizon.
What I should have done was conferenced the two together.

After 3hrs and 3 phone calls on Sunday evening, I finally got the two to agree to a reality. They had to work together to pull me outta the hole.
So, Linksys got my keys all corrected ("let me just reset your keys") and Verizon got my password corrected ("let me just reset your password") and voila, cha-ching, shabanm! I have wireless internet.
For the record, that nifty little setup disk that comes with the router...that's a cup-holder...not a setup disk.

Tonight we NETWORK! Woohoo!
Happy Monday. I hope it requires very little actual thought. LOL

6-9-06 Happy Friday

I learned something yesterday.
I learned that I can combat self-pity with positive thinking.
The self-pity wasn't mine, by the way.
Once a positive thought was thrown into the pool, the self-pitying party went away.
(sadly, the party continues to pity...just not in my presence)
I'm going to look for a lot of positive thoughts...to share...whether she likes them or not.
I'm going to buy me some Zig Ziglar books - that's what I'm going to do!
One of us will feel better! I know that much.

6-8-06 Musical Interlude

Rock Show

Doesn't that look like the stage lighting of some grand band? I thought I'd post a musical interlude today whilst I think of something more profound. :)

"If everyone cared and nobody cried,
If everyone loved and nobody lied,
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride,
Then we'd see the day, when nobody died

And I'm singing

amen I,amen, I, I'm alive
amen I amen I, amen I, I'm alive

And in the air the fireflies
Our only light in paradise
We'll show the world they were wrong
And teach them all to sing along

Singing amen I, I'm alive (I'm alive)
Singing amen I, I'm alive"
-Nickleback-

What's the best concert you've ever seen live?
Oddly, the best for me was Queensryche: Mindcrime. It was a true theatrical performance.
Second best was an intimate show: Rik Emmett. Most talented and emotional guitar player I've ever witnessed. Brilliant performer.
Tell me yours.

Love Letters

Love trumps fear!

Love to each and every one of you. Reach out to someone you love today. Just say "Hello" and be peaceful at the sound of their voice. Take a moment to think of the special, unique way that they laugh. What could be better than that?

My heart is with Linny and her Mom today. As I type, Linny's Mom is prepping for surgery. Prayers and blessings and love from here to there.

Have a Good Tuesday.

6-5-06 Mass Hysteria Amuses Me

I know a person who will hide inside a locked house, with shades drawn, because of tomorrow's date. I am amused by this. A bit saddened as well. It buys into my theory that people are sheep. That's a horribly negative theory, isn't it?
Regardless, tomorrow is 060606. I sincerely hope I do not have to eat my words but I just don't see the logic in fearing numbers.
Moreover, I do not comprehend a Christian fearing anything so trivial. Isn't that the purpose of that particular faith? To know that one is saved and so one has nothing to fear? It seems odd to put so much energy into the negative. How very Koreshian to hide away. Will there be thousands doing the same?

I see tomorrow as nothing more than a real good day to premier the remake of "The Omen". But that plays into it too, doesn't it?

I do hope some idiot group of zealot terrorists doesn't see it as a real good day to make a point.

6-2-06 IT'S FRIIIIDAY

Let's have something fun and curvy for a Friday. (I can see right where that statement is going.) And since I've already put my foot in it, let me add that Friday's are my early day at work; leaving me no time to respond to yesterday's postings but opening the door for this: Nothing like a good Friday morning quickie.

See ya soon.
Have a happy day. :)

Thursday, June 01, 2006

It's a gray and cloudy day...and that's a good thing. :)
Here's hoping for a little rain. Rain is good. Rain washes away. Rain makes happy, new things grow.
C'mon showers, I'm ready for ya.

Isn't that odd? Our lakes are about 12" lower than they should be but poor Houston is floating. The difference a couple hundred miles makes.

Have a beautiful day everyone. May the weather be perfect, whatever mood it's in.

5-30-06 Something to think about...or not...

Suppose someone you care about tells you a secret. Suppose they say something like "You know, I was the one who wrecked your car back in 1998."
Now you have this information but what do you do with it? The car wasn't special. It was replaced by a newer model. Life has moved on.

You didn't know this 10 minutes ago and so you weren't affected by it. Now you know it and you have a choice: a) let it interfere with your life or b) toss it out.

Here's the rub: If you decide to hold on to that information...in fact to brood over it...the only person being hurt is you. The other person has, in fact, cleared their conscience. THEY feel better.
Why does a person hold on to information that only hurts them? Is it self-pity? A reason to let people feel sorry for them?

I do not understand.
Toss it out. Move on.

Does it depend on the secret told? If the secret may have impacted lives does that justify the brooding? Does that give reason to hold a grudge? Does the grudge hurt the person with the secret....or just the brooder?

I'm at a loss.

I'm learning a new lesson. It is that some people create their own problems by hanging on to useless negativity. Some people bang their heads because they like the suffering.

Have I lost compassion or just lost patience?

Have a happy Wednesday. It really is Wednesday...really.

Wild and colorful.
The two images are meant to be one. As soon as I find a cheap copy of Photoshop (I'm sure I have one around here somewhere) I'm going to figure out how to lay the colorful one over the fiery one. Woohoo. I have so much potential, don't you think. :D

5-25-06 A bit surreal

"Live in such a way that you would not be ashamed to sell your parrot to the town gossip."
-Will Rogers

I saw a couple of these yesterday. They were flying wild in the neighborhood. Someone's pets gone wild I guess.
I was happy for them....because they were together. Two against the world.

They seemed a colorful blessing against the dullness of the day.
I remember someone saying something about it being good luck if they nest in your yard. I don't recall why. Maybe just because their brilliant colors seem so hopeful.

Happy Thursday.

5-24-06 Dreamz?

Crystal Ball

I dream.
I dream vivid, colorful, emotional.
I rarely remember the dreams but I remember the emotions. My days can be determined at times by the mood I awake with.

Lately, they have the same mood - although the dream is not the same.
The mood is "lost", and it's a very odd mood for me.

I remember Sunday night's dream.
I was at work. It was very dark night. I was entirley alone. I wandered about the cubicles in confusion; searching for light where I thought it should be. There was no moonlight from the windows, no light from computer monitors. I continued to wander in the blackness. I knew my way around but still I felt lost.
I realized that my glasses sat on a desk. They seemed like some kind of salvation for my confusion. I reached for them..........and then awoke.
I wonder what they would have shown me.
I wonder why it didn't dawn on me to look for the light switch.
(I realize the interpretation is blatantly obvious. I realize it will pass.)

Do you dream?
Do you dream in color?
Have you any dreams to share?

Happy Humpday.

5-23-06

When a lute is played, there is no previous store of playing that it comes from. When the music stops, it does not go anywhere else. It came into existence by way of the structure of the lute and the playing of the performer. When the playing ceases, the music goes out of existence.

In the same way all the components of being, both material and nonmaterial, come into existence, play their part, and pass away.

That which we call a person is the bringing together of components and their actions with each other. It is impossible to find a permanent self there. And yet there is a paradox. For there is a path to follow and there is walking to be done, and yet there is no walker. There are actions but there is no actor. The air moves but there is no wind. The idea of a specific self is a mistake. Existence is clarity and emptiness.

Main Entry: 1lim·bo
Function: noun
Pronunciation: 'lim-(")bO
Inflected Form(s): plural limbos
Etymology: Middle English, from Medieval Latin, ablative of limbus limbo, from Latin, border
1 often capitalized : an abode of souls that are according to Roman Catholic theology barred from heaven because of not having received Christian baptism
2 a : a place or state of restraint or confinement b : a place or state of neglect or oblivion c : an intermediate or transitional place or state d : a state of uncertainty

My friend and I have a joke about Limbo. We're often in it.
Limbo is a place of waiting. It is a place of non-action. Limbo requires immense patience.
Limbo is where one is when the world has flipped on a dime, with no notice, and one is waiting for it to right itself.
Generally, it doesn't right itself.
Generally, we become accustomed to the Limbo or the world flips again.
Quite oddly, I am comfortable in Limbo. It gives me something to look forward to.

Happy Friday.

5-16-06 Just the facts ma'am

Now that's showing my age, huh?

Ok, a few notes about what's going on in the world. Well, my tiny little self-centered world anyway. (snicker)

First, I get to be the bear from my previous post on Thursday an Friday. I took myself a coupla vacation days. Woohoo. Downtime. Sleeping in. Yay!

Second, although I have a coupla days off, the reason I took them was a bit upsetting. My conscience is struggling with it still. It will pass, I'm sure.
May 19th is Mom's birthday. She ran across a cheap flight and was going to come up from Houston to visit.
I panicked because she's never flown before and subsequently treated her as if she were a child. I find airports to be an overwhelming hassle. I pushed to let me come down there and fly back with her so she wouldn't be alone. She got insulted and decided she woulnd't come after all.
Ugh, the guilt. Sorry Mom. I worry. I worry a lot about things that aren't even real I guess. Rats.
So, she's not coming up and I have two days off. :P

Third - and most absolutely joyous....my sister is pregnant AGAIN.
Yes, the mother of that adorable, beautiful boy is going to have another adorable, beautiful child for me to love. Woohoo!!!
Look at me, I'm all Aunt Bea here:
LOL

Ok, that's enough news. What? It wasn't really news?

Oh, that's different. Nevermind. :)

Happy Tuesday all.

5-15-06 Zzzzzzzz...

I hope you all had a quiet and peaceful weekend. Parts of mine were very peaceful. :P I'll just hang on to those parts and blow the rest to the wind.

Didn't get a lot of sleep last night.
This is pretty much what Monday looks like so far.

Sincerely wish I could remain in the reclined position.

Terry, the polar bears are for you. I know how you love 'em. :D
Everyone else, please take a look at the typed-in dates of this post and the last one. Purely for your amusement. Apparently I skip around weeks.
Tomorrow could be May 30th - or May 2nd...I guess it depends on the bleary-eyedness of my a.m. posts. LOL

Happy Monday all.

Flight of Angels

I didn't quite get the FNF I was looking for. Funny thing though. I had a dream of what I wanted to post today. I was all excited to post it. I woke up and completely forgot what it was.
The angels above will do just fine anyway.

Have a wonderful Friday.

5-10-06 Some are more profound than others....

First spot on the news this morning was about Steve Vaught. Steve is a man who came to a crossroads in his life and decided to take the path less traveled. He did it to lose weight. He did it to find himself. He did it for peace of mind.
He has been successful.
I'm quite impressed.

So...a shout-out to Steve Vaught. Way to go! Well done!
Here's a link to his site: FatManWalking.com

It's hard to find inspiring stories in the news these days. I think Steve does just fine there.
I sincerely hope that the end of his trip is just the beginning of his journey.

Have a happy and inspired Wednesday all.

5-9-06 We can't always be profound...

I so wish I had something profound to say. I just don't.
Can not think of a thing.

Here's my latest pretty fractal.

Of course, it is not so wonderful as TreƩ's who apparently IS having my fractal babies. They all resemble him though...which is really for the better. LOL

Ok, say something profound.
Happy Tuesday.

5-8-06 Waves

Today is brought to you by the word "wave". Not the friendly, neighborly kind. The great big, rushing sort.
Waves are for riding. It does help to see them coming when you're going to ride them though.

This is Garrett riding a wave. I don't know Garrett. I stole the pic from his blog. Way to go Garrett! I could learn a thing or two from Garrett. I suppose he could learn a thing or two from me. Could be my waves are bigger.

And now for the friendly, neighborly kind:
Hello

5-5-06 Huh?

When you live with someone for a very long time you tend to have less conversations and more communications. That is to say, you speak what you're thinking and sort of assume the other person is thinking the same thing. I call them "subjectless sentences". They happen a lot.
They sound like "Where's the thing?" and "It's over there by the thingy."
Amazingly, I know what the lost thing is and he knows what thingy I'm referring to.
Only - that isn't always true. In fact, more and more, I don't have any idea what thing he's looking for and I can't even remember what the thingy is called or where it was last.

Case in point: My husband said two things to me this morning before our daily "I love you"s and "be careful going to work"s.
He said, "It's time to get up." which I did. And he said, "I have a feeling if it rains they're not going to do it again today."

Now I'm pretty foggy brained at this point but I'll be damned if I know who they are or what they aren't going to do because of the rain.
Oh wait...yeah I do. Nevermind. He's right. They probably won't. But they ought to because I'm not going to let them do it on the weekend.

LOL - Sick little game, isn't it?

Happy Friday.
