2-26-2006 God

Okay, question, I say to Morrie. His bony fingers hold his glasses across his chest, which rises and falls with each labored breath.
"What's the question" he says.
Remember the Book of Job?
"From the Bible?"
Right. Job is a good man, but God makes him suffer. To test his faith.
"I remember"
Takes away evrything he has, his house, his money, his family...
"His health."
Makes him sick.
"To test his faith."
Right. To test his faith. So, I'm wondering...
"What are you wondering?"
What you think about that?
Morrie coughs violently. His hands quiver as he drops them by his side.
"I think," he says, smiling, "God overdid it."

*smiles* Yep, God sure overdid it.

JD always used to compare himself with Job. I read Jobs Book just to understand him better, and with the knowledge I had about JD's situation, I read and cried.

It confused the heck outta me to be honest...and it still does. Guess I've never been very good at understanding the Bible.

Hope your weekend is good, Agnes :hugggggggggsss:

Happy Sunday, dearest Agnes, hope it is treating you well.

(Heard so much about this book here, I had Maria bring it home with her from her recent trip to London.)

I used to compare my life to Job's... and get mad at the story. Who the heck does God think He is, allowing such enormous suffering for whatever reason?

I've since come to the opinion that God is God, and whatever He does is up to Him. I cannot fathom the reasons, but that doesn't matter to me anymore. He is omnipotent.

Tuesday's with Morrie does have tons of gems, suprisingly the author is a sportswriter.

Christa, my mother swears that my hubby is Job. Sometimes he can get in the biggest rut of bad luck.
I second that "never understanding the Bibile" thing.

Autumn, Sunday was ok. Went with a friend to see Madea's Family Reunion and I do not recommend it. Total downer. I did like the Maya Angalou(sp) parts.

Terry and Tracy, I hope you'll laugh at this: I recently told a friend that God and I are on the outs just now. I said "if there's a God up there he's got one helluva talking to coming from me!"
She said, "That's ok. He made you the way you are and he'll understand." I think that's good for him because I'm really going to chew him out!!

Rupen, I was amused by Mitch Albom being the writer of that story as well. It seems out of character, but I've not met the man. Maybe he's full of character. :)
I understand he wrote another book called "The Five Poeple You Meet in Heaven." I might check that out.

Aggie, "The Five People You Meet In Heaven" is such a good book. I recommend it higly. I read it after my husband died, and my Sweetie just read it now that his Dad passed. Excellent, short, easy read.

Have a great Monday!
